District III Choral Assessment – This year, Grissom Choir will be hosting it's 3rd Annual "District III Choral Assessment", which acts as an in-house choral performance assessment for Grissom Choir, alongside its three feeder middle school choral programs in District III of Huntsville City Schools: Challenger Middle School, Mountain Gap Middle School, & Whitesburg Middle School.  In this assessment, each of the schools various choirs perform two songs in contrasting style in front of two performance adjudicators for ratings ranging from "Outstanding" to "Fair".  The on-stage choir is then given a post-performance one-on-one clinic with one of the adjudicators.  This workshop is designed to encourage, invigorate, and enforce the daily teachings of each department, alongside the overall goals for ACDA, AVA & Choral Music Educators in the state of Alabama.

Morgan Luttig, Ph.D

​Director of Choral Activities

Dr. Morgan Luttig is a choral conductor, music educator, and clinician known for her philosophy of “make serious music unseriously.” She serves as Director of Choral Activities at the University of Alabama, where she conducts University Singers and Treble Chorus, co-directs Druid City Chorus, and oversees undergraduate and graduate conducting programs. Her innovative teaching has earned recognition through a Tide Teaching Grant and SEC Faculty Travel Grant and has contributed to significant growth in the university’s choral program.

Under her leadership, the UA Treble Chorus was selected to perform at the 2025 National Collegiate Choral Organization Conference, while University Singers performed at the 2025 Alabama Music Educators Association Conference and received second place in the 2025 American Prize Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music.

An active scholar and clinician, Dr. Luttig received the University of Alabama’s 2026 Presidential Research Award for Emerging Scholar in the Arts and Humanities and was selected for the 2026 International Conductors Exchange Program with Portugal. Her research focuses on play in the choral rehearsal, conducting pedagogy, innovative programming, student engagement, and score study, with presentations at ACDA and NAfME conferences.

Dr. Luttig serves as Southern Region Membership Chair for ACDA and Associate Editor of Recording Reviews for NCCO publications. She holds degrees from Florida State University, Westminster Choir College, and Washington and Lee University.

Damion Womack, D.M.A

Dr. Damion Womack, a GRAMMY Music Educator Award semifinalist, has dedicated his career to inspiring excellence in choral music education as a conductor, educator, and administrator at the elementary, middle school, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. He currently serves as Director of Arts at The Montgomery Academy, where he oversees the school's comprehensive K–12 arts program and conducts the award-winning Upper School Chorus. During his tenure, he was honored with the McLemore Award for Excellence in Teaching. Prior to his current role, Dr. Womack served as Director of Choral Activities at Mississippi College and Chair of the Department of Music at Huntingdon College.
Choral ensembles under Dr. Womack’s direction have been selected through a juried process to perform at regional and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

A sought-after guest conductor and clinician, Dr. Womack has presented workshops and lectures at regional and national ACDA and NAfME conferences. His research interests include choral tone, expressive and unified singing, and the role of word stress in choral performance. He has conducted honor choir festivals throughout the United States and is recognized for his commitment to developing singers and advancing choral artistry.

Dr. Womack begins his term as President of the ACDA Southern Region in July 2026 and has contributed to numerous conference planning committees within the organization. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina and earned degrees in Music Education from Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University.
