The GCPA is a nonprofit corporation with the purpose of providing financial, physical, and educational support for the students enrolled in the Choral Department Program of Grissom High School, as well as any faculty, coaches, or other personnel employed or engaged by the Huntsville City Board of Education in an instructional capacity in the Choral Department of Grissom High School


The purpose shall also be to foster, promote, and increase the musical knowledge of, and appreciation for, choral music to the participants and the public, exclusively through educational activities, by helping to organize and present (primarily but not exclusively in the City of Huntsville, AL) performances of choral music to be suitable at the time and place for such exclusively educational purposes.


The purpose shall be further stated to be the promotion of, and the encouragement of participation in, activities sponsored by the Huntsville Choral Directors Association, the Alabama Choral Directors Association, and the Alabama Music Educators Association by such individuals, ensembles, and choruses as the Director of the Grissom High School Choral Department deems appropriate.

Grissom Choral Parents Association Board Meeting Minutes
November 11, 2025


I. Call to Order
  • Time: 5:46 PM

II. Attendance
  • Present: Amy Boyle, Amanda Magonigal, Joanna Hillis, Kenneth Newton, Tucker Ratcliff
 
  • Absent: Amanda Francis, Karon Howard, Jessica Spinoso
  • Guests/Visitors: Ed Crackle
III. Reading and Approval of Minutes
Previous Meeting Minutes: Minutes read by Amy Boyle. Motion to approve by Amanda Magonigal, seconded by Kenneth Newton. Passed unanimously.
IV. Officer and Committee Reports 
  • Treasurer
    • Report of Current Financials:
In: $2,748.77
Out: $7,103.46
Totals: GCPA Account: $28,282.24, PayPal: $3,716.00
 
  • Fundraising
    • Popcorn fundraiser planned for January.
    • Will plan to have another fundraiser after Spring Break, possibly Nothing Bundt Cakes.
 
V. Old Business
  • Men’s Uniform Purchase: Samples haven’t been ordered yet. Mr. Ratcliff is waiting to find out what pieces are needed.
 
  • Glow Run: Saturday, November 15. The time has changed to 5 PM.
Leadership team will assist with set up. 40 participants are currently registered. 
Shirts, stickers, and winners’ medals were purchased for this year’s participants, as well as enough bags and glow sticks to use for next year’s event as well.
We have 3 Corporate sponsors for $750 total. Current profit stands at $1,455.00.
For next year, we will look into partnering with Fleet Feet in order to grow the event.
 
  • Winter Concert: Tuesday, December 9 at 7 PM. Board to arrive at 6 PM, and doors to open at 6:45. If possible, the doors will open early and Chamber Choir will sing Christmas carols prior to the concert.
Chairs will be placed in the lobby for people waiting before the doors open.
Amy Boyle will purchase poinsettias from Sam’s to serve as decoration and to sell after the concert.
 
VI. New Business
  • Mr. Ratcliff will ask about removing boards used for headshots from theater lobby and about getting lobby TVs fixed.
 
  • Tuesday, November 18: Chamber Choir will travel to WHNT to record Christmas Carols.
 
  • AMEA: Chamber Choir, January 23 & 24. 2 senators have donated money that will cover the cost of hotels and one meal. Choir will pay for charter bus, with a discount from the bus company.
 
  • UAB Honor Choir: Monday, February 23. All choirs will attend via school buses.
 
  • Grissom Choral Assessment has been renamed to District 3 Choral Assessment.

  • Motion by Kenneth Newton, seconded by Amanda Magonigal. Passed unanimously.
