The GCPA is a nonprofit corporation with the purpose of providing financial, physical, and educational support for the students enrolled in the Choral Department Program of Grissom High School, as well as any faculty, coaches, or other personnel employed or engaged by the Huntsville City Board of Education in an instructional capacity in the Choral Department of Grissom High School


The purpose shall also be to foster, promote, and increase the musical knowledge of, and appreciation for, choral music to the participants and the public, exclusively through educational activities, by helping to organize and present (primarily but not exclusively in the City of Huntsville, AL) performances of choral music to be suitable at the time and place for such exclusively educational purposes.


The purpose shall be further stated to be the promotion of, and the encouragement of participation in, activities sponsored by the Huntsville Choral Directors Association, the Alabama Choral Directors Association, and the Alabama Music Educators Association by such individuals, ensembles, and choruses as the Director of the Grissom High School Choral Department deems appropriate.

March 9, 2026


I. Call to Order
  • Time: 5:36 PM
  • By: Amy Boyle
II. Attendance
  • Present: Amy Boyle, Amanda Francis, Joanna Hillis, Tucker Ratcliff, Kenneth Newton
  • Absent: Jessica Spinoso, Karon Howard, Ed Crackle, Amanda Magonigal
 
III. Reading and Approval of Minutes
Previous Meeting Minutes: Minutes read by Joanna Hillis. Kenneth Newton motion to approve, Amanda Francis 2nd, approved unanimously.
 
IV. Officer and Committee Reports 
Treasurer
  • Report of Current Financials:
In: $2,589.34 
Out: $7,511.86
Totals: GCPA Account: $21,004.53
Paypal: $2,262.97
Outstanding Fees: ~$16,000 (13 seniors)
 
Fundraising
  • Nothing Bundt Cakes: After spring break
  • Grissom Day at Trash Pandas – August 18, Chamber choir will perform, portion of online ticket sales money will go to Choir.
 
V. Old Business
  • Choral Assessment – March 11, 8:30-12:30. Leadership team will assist with check-in, and 1-2 board members are needed to help.
  • All State - March 12-14
 
  • Other Event Dates:
Spring Concert – April 28 at 7:00
Choral Accords – May 9th at 7 PM – possible date change
  • New desk for Mr. Ratcliff – Kenneth Newton will order selected desk for $1,173 out of school account. Amy Boyle proposed we purchase new desk. Amanda Francis made motion to purchase, Kenneth Newton seconded, all approved.
  • Trip for 2027 – Vienna (3 nights), Olomouc (1 night), Prague (2 nights). Goal is to have 2 formal concerts and 1 impromptu. Cost will be ~$3,000, and will include everything but lunches. Will be open to current 9-12 grades. 
-Travel agency should have official quote by this Friday, 3/16. Mr. Ratcliff will have meeting Tuesday during spring break to announce details. Remind link will be sent after meeting for registration to begin. Will need either 50 or 80 registrants. 
VI. New Business 
  • Applications - Scholarship and Chamber Choir applications will open this Friday.
  • Block Schedule – Most Concert and Chamber Choir students have worked out their schedule to take choir both semesters next year.
- Schedule Change: Concert with Huntsville Community Chorus has fallen through, will have a different program with Mr. Ratcliff’s favorite requiems. Chamber and Concert Choirs will participate, Men’s and Women’s Choirs may not.
