The GCPA is a nonprofit corporation with the purpose of providing financial, physical, and educational support for the students enrolled in the Choral Department Program of Grissom High School, as well as any faculty, coaches, or other personnel employed or engaged by the Huntsville City Board of Education in an instructional capacity in the Choral Department of Grissom High School


The purpose shall also be to foster, promote, and increase the musical knowledge of, and appreciation for, choral music to the participants and the public, exclusively through educational activities, by helping to organize and present (primarily but not exclusively in the City of Huntsville, AL) performances of choral music to be suitable at the time and place for such exclusively educational purposes.


The purpose shall be further stated to be the promotion of, and the encouragement of participation in, activities sponsored by the Huntsville Choral Directors Association, the Alabama Choral Directors Association, and the Alabama Music Educators Association by such individuals, ensembles, and choruses as the Director of the Grissom High School Choral Department deems appropriate.

Grissom Choral Parents Association Board Meeting Minutes
April 13, 2026

I. Call to Order
  • Time: 5:35 PM

  • Absent: Ed Crackel, Amanda Magonigal, Kenneth Newton
 
III. Reading and Approval of Minutes

IV. Officer and Committee Reports 
Treasurer
  • Report of Current Financials:
In: $5,511.47 
Out: $3,475.88
Totals: GCPA Account: $22,303.24

Outstanding Fees: $15,263.08 (11 seniors)
 
Fundraising
  • Nothing Bundt Cakes: Til April 21, will receive vouchers that can be used at the store

V. Old Business

Spring Concert – April 28 at 7:00 
Choral Accords – May 9th at 7 PM – Will be in auditorium. Will be free for students, $5 payment at the door for parents or friends. Will need help with tickets and refreshments. Will get cupcakes, cookies, water, plates, etc. Karon will reach out to a contact about possible balloon arch. Requested to print out pictures from the year to decorate the lobby.

  • New desk for Mr. Ratcliff – still pending, hasn’t been ordered yet.
  • European Performance Tour – Cost will be $3,079 each, added $300 buffer for buses, nurse, fees, etc. = $3,379 total for 8 days. 
-Includes everything but lunches. Payment schedule is set. Max if flying out of HSV is 62 to accommodate bus size. 56 are currently registered (39 students, 17 chaperones). Need a few more kids to lessen price per person, especially tenors and bases.

VI. New Business 
  • Scholarship meeting – May 5, 5:30 at Luis
  • Transition meeting – May 11, normal monthly meeting. Mr. Ratcliff will have proposed budget for next year.
  • Block Schedule – Discussed making class fees $150 for 1 semester students (plus $100 uniform fee for new students) and $300 for 2 semester students.
  • All State: Discount discussed for having multiple kids going forward or having parents book their own rooms at the hotel. Mr. Ratcliff could reserve block of rooms to get a discounted rate and then parents could book and pay. Will give Hubbard family discount to $545 this year since both kids shared the same room.
  • Purchased yearly subscription to make tests online to accommodate block scheduling.
  • Board next year: Amanda Francis will remain Treasurer, Joanna Hillis will remain Secretary. Ed Crackel will be President, Karon Howard will lead Fundraisers. Have asked Hubbards to do uniforms. Amelia Dean has expressed interest in helping. Will ask for assistance at Spring Concert.
