Grissom Choral Assessment

Grissom Choral Assessment – This year, Grissom Choir will be hosting it's first annual Grissom Choral Assessment, which will act as an in-house choral performance assessment for Grissom Choir, alongside its three feeder middle school choral programs: Challenger Middle School, Mountain Gap Middle School, & Whitesburg Middle School. This event acts as a replacement for the adjudicated State Choral Performance Assessment. In this assessment, each of the schools various choirs perform two songs in contrasting style in front of two performance adjudicators for ratings ranging from "Outstanding" to "Fair". The on-stage choir is then given a post-performance one-on-one clinic & workshop with one of the adjudicators, which is designed to encourage, invigorate, and enforce the daily teachings of each department.

William Powell, Ph.D.

Auburn University
Director of Choral Activities

William Powell serves as director of choral activities at Auburn University. He teaches choral-related courses, and he conducts the Chamber Choir, Men's Chorus, Concert Choir, and Gospel Choir. He guest conducts throughout the United States and abroad, with several Lincoln Center performances through Distinguished Concerts International-New York. Powell also serves as an adjudicator for choral festivals such as Festival Disney. In addition to “The William Powell Choral Series,” his choral arrangements are published by Fred Bock Music, Hal Leonard, and Oxford University Press.

Powell serves on the National Board of the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) as a southern region representative. He is also an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, and he holds memberships with the National Association for Music Education and the American Society of Composers and Publishers.

Stacy Daniels, M.M.ED

Liberty Middle School
Choral Director

Stacy Daniels is a versatile singer, clinician, conductor, educator and has experience teaching and conducting students & adults in K-12, community, and church settings. Mr. Daniels currently serves as the Choral Music Director at Liberty Middle School in Madison, Alabama. He is also the director of the Huntsville Community Chorus Association Treble Chorale, a vocal ensemble for unchanged voices in grades 6-8. A graduate of the University of Montevallo, Daniels received Bachelor of Music degrees in Choral Music Education & Vocal Performance. Daniels also received the Master of Music Education with an emphasis in Choral Conducting from The Florida State University and Kodaly certification from the University of Montevallo Kodaly Institute.

Mr. Daniels serves as President-Elect for the Alabama chapter of the ACDA and is a Past President of the Madison County (AL) Choral Directors Association. Choirs under Daniels’ direction have consistently received superior ratings at state and national choral festivals, and have been invited to be featured ensembles at collegiate honor choir festivals and at the 2023 AMEA conference. Mr. Daniels is married to Taryn, also an educator, and they reside in Huntsville, AL.
