Good Evening Grissom Choir,


Welcome, Parents and Students, to another great year in Grissom Choir. I am very excited to see what this new year has in store. If you are returning, welcome back. I hope that this year brings opportunity for you to learn and grow as a musician. For those that are new, I welcome you into my classroom. I like to look at Grissom Choir as being unique. We not only teach and perform music, but we strive for an all-around music education that strengthens you as a musician. This encompasses learning the theory behind what we sing, the history behind what we sing, as well as the technical aspects and enjoyments of WHY we sing. I hope that this year challenges you. I hope that it instill a passion for music that you never had before.


It will be a joy to see returning students next week, and to meet our new Grissom Choir members as well.  I am already very excited to see what this year has in store, and to hear what wonderful music each of our choirs will make!

This Week in Choir
Each week, I will send out an email titled “This Week in Choir”, which will direct you to the Grissom Choir Weekly Newsletter housed on our website .  This Newsletter will list what each classes’s objectives are for the week, as well as upcoming event information & any other announcements that concern Grissom Choir.  Returning families, please make sure your family has entered in all current information (specifically email!) into My Music Office in order to receive these updates.  New families, we will learn how to do this at our Grissom Choir Parent Meeting.

Grissom Choir Parent Meeting
We would like to welcome everyone to the required Choral Parents Meeting at 6:00pm on August 14th in the Auditorium. At this meeting, we will discuss the handbook in full, & all information concerning being a Grissom Choir student & parent. This is a requirement for ALL students & parents to attend. New members will also get sized/fitted for their choir uniform this evening as well.

Grissom Choir Handbook & Acknowledgment Form
The Grissom Choir Handbook will be sent home with each student this coming week. Please ensure that all students & parents/guardians have read over this Handbook, and sign and submit the Digital Handbook Acknowledgement Form by our Parent Meeting on August 14th. This serves as a 50 point Formative Assessment in PowerSchools for all students.

Basic Support Fee & Fundraising
At our parent meeting, we will discuss our annual Basic Support Fee for all students, as well as kick-off our first fundraiser of the year to off-set this cost. Information about this fee can be found in the Handbook that will be sent home with all students. We ask that payment toward this fee be made, or a payment plan be instated at this meeting. Those that wish to fundraise may do so after speaking with our treasurer!

Remind
It is a requirement for all students to join the NEW Remind by August 14th using the information listed in the handbook, on our website, as well as the powerpoint on Schoology. Parents/Guardians, you may join your child's class using the information provided as well. To access the Remind Codes on the website, please visit www.grissomchoir.com/about, and scroll down and join the class that is listed on the student schedule.  This serves as a 50 point Formative Assessment in PowerSchools for all students.

All-City Registration Deadline
The deadline to register for this year’s All-City Choral Festival is THIS COMING Friday, August 8th!  Since this is a QUICK turnaround, please make sure that those that wish to audition have done so by following the provided link to our website! https://www.grissomchoir.com/allcity.  More information concerning what the All-City Choral Festival is will be discussed in class this coming week.
