This Week in Choir: Week 22

Good Afternoon Grissom Choir,

The Grissom Chamber Choir presented a truly stunning performance Friday afternoon at the annual AMEA Conference.  They displayed  musicianship throughout intricate and challenging music, and the whole choir overcame many obstacles to perform a concert of high caliber music and performance quality.  BRAVI to these musicians on a fantastic performance!

Poppin Popcorn Fundraiser
Three weeks ago, Grissom Choir will start our 3rd fundraiser of the school year, Poppin Popcorn, which will end THIS COMING Tuesday, January 27th!  This is an EASY, FULLY ONLINE fundraiser for students to participate in to help raise funds for their My Music Office Account.  All orders are placed and paid for online then shipped directly to the customers home within 24-48 business hours!  Visit https://poppinpopcornonline.com/participant/register.php?g=SIZDGT to create your Grissom Choir Seller ID.  Once registered, you'll be able to log in and start selling by simply posting a link to your Facebook page or other social media accounts. Log in from your mobile device to send text messages to close family & friends. Or, you can also send your fundraiser link via email. Good luck and have fun selling!

6th Annual Grissom Choral Festival
This school year, Grissom Choir will be hosting its 5th Annual Grissom Choral Festival THIS COMING Saturday, January 31st, with a free public concert at 4:00pm that afternoon. This is a wonderful opportunity for current middle school students, grades 7th-8th, to sing and perform alongside current high school choir members and see what being in Grissom Choir is all about!  While this is a requirement for all Chamber Choir members & Leadership Team to be apart of, I encourage any and all current Grissom Choir students to attend this free 4:00pm concert that afternoon!  Those in attendance will receive an extra 100 point test grade in Schoology/PowerSchool.

Pizza & Pop Auditions
Auditions for our annual Pizza & Pop Showcase are coming up in 3 weeks, on the afternoon of Friday, February 13th from 4:00-6:30pm.  For those interested in auditioning, we will speak in class concerning the criteria and what is expected out of you.  I highly encourage any and all Grissom Choir students to audition for this evening of dinner & music.  All Student Audition Information can be found on our website at www.grissomchoir.com/pizzapop, along with the Audition Form!

UAB Honor Choir
This spring, all 4 Grissom Choirs will be traveling down to the Birmingham on Monday, February 23rd for the University of Alabama in Birmingham’s Honor Choir.  This honor choir is designed to affirm the participation of young singers in the vocal arts. The choirs are comprised of high school students throughout the State of Alabama. Students work closely with the festival clinician in intense rehearsals focusing on musicianship skills, voice building, and ensemble performance. The choir also rehearses and performs side-by-side the UAB Concert Choir. Students will experience concerts and masterclasses, and will perform with seasoned professionals on traditional and exciting new choral repertoire.  A more detailed letter will be emailed out & sent home next week.  Please mark your calendar for this day!

Pizza & Pop Location & Date Change
I am thrilled to announce that our talent show/showcase night, Pizza & Pop, will take place in The Youth Center at First Baptist Church, Gov. Drive.  This is an ideal venue for this type of event, and we are blessed to have been given the opportunity to host an event there thanks to the efforts of FBC’s Youth Directors.  Thank you to choir parent John Lemmons for aiding in the process of Grissom Choir securing this venue next month!
