This Week in Choir: Week 24

Good Afternoon Grissom Choir,

We are BEYOND thrilled and excited to inform you that Grissom Choir seniors Seth Smith & Sophia Zajac were both selected as the state of Alabama's Outstanding Male & Female Choral Students! They each compiled an extensive application, consisting of 2 video interview (District & State Level), video audition, 3 letters of recommendation, and a resume detailing 7th-12th grade choral experiences.  This is the utmost highest honor a student can receive in our state, and to have both the Male & Female students for our state be members of Grissom Choir is a blessing and honor for the program & HCS. They will now go on to be acknowledged as District V AND State OCS winners at our AVA All-State Choral Festival in March.

Grissom Choir Honor Choir Participation
This spring, all 4 Grissom Choirs will be traveling down to the Birmingham Metro Area for 2 different Honor Choirs:

Concert & Chamber Choirs: THIS COMING Monday, February 5th: University of Alabama in Birmingham’s Honor Choir:

These honor choirs are designed to affirm the participation of young singers in the vocal arts. The choirs are comprised of high school students throughout the State of Alabama. Students work closely with the festival clinician in intense rehearsals focusing on musicianship skills, voice building, and ensemble performance. The choir also rehearses and performs side-by-side the collegiate choirs. Students will experience concerts and masterclasses, and will perform with seasoned professionals on traditional and exciting new choral repertoire.  A more detailed letter per honor choir has been emailed, as well as handed out in class.  Please mark your calendars for these days!!

Chamber Choir State Capitol Performance
THIS COMING THURSDAY, our Chamber Choir has been selected by the Alabama State Department of Education, the Alabama Music Educator’s Association, and the Alabama Institute for Education in the Arts to perform in the rotunda of the Alabama State Capital Building during the 2024 Legislative Session.  We are honored and excited to have been selected for this collaborative project once more, and can’t wait to share in this experience with our students.  A Letter/Email was sent out two weeks ago with more information, alongside a Digital Permission-to-Travel form.

Solo & Ensemble Registration
For the 2 soloists and 3 ensembles that have registered for Solo & Ensemble, your $15 (per soloist) or $25 (per ensemble) is DUE in the Money Box or MMO.  Music has been given out to all participants.  Our official date and time for this event is scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, February 15th.  A Letter/Email was handed/emailed out today with more information, alongside a Digital Permission-to-Travel form.  All forms & monies will be due by Friday, February 9th.
