This Week in Choir: Week 10


Good Morning Grissom Choir,


I hope that everyone had a wonderful Fall Break, and is excited to continue working towards our Winter Concert that is only 7 rehearsal weeks away!


Before the break, the Grissom Concert Choir had a non-stop day of singing at the University of Montevallo for their annual Choral Festival of Voices! The high school clinician, Dr. Martha Shaw, was VERY impressed specifically with Grissom Choir’s attentiveness, respect, and dedication.  Congratulations to the Concert Choir on fantastic day of choral singing!


After the break, 4 Grissom Choir members (Jenny Dick, James Graham, Molly Malone, & Marisa Nelson) spent their weekend in Birmingham at the UAB Choral Masterworks Festival, where they worked alongside the UAB Concert Choir & select other HS students from throughout the state.  The Masterworks Choir performed the world premiere of Michael John Trotta’s new setting of the Requiem text, of whom our students were able to meet and work with at the festival.  Congratulations to these 4 Grissom Choir members on an outstanding festival performance!

All-City Festival Forms & Payment
The 2022 All-City Choral Festival is next week!  An email has been sent out with important documents concerning this event, and will be handed out to students in class.  Please see the provided email & paperwork for all details.  Forms and payments are due by this Friday!


All-State Audition Forms & Payment
The 2022 All-State Choral Festival Auditions are in 4 weeks!  An email has been sent out with important documents concerning this event, and will be handed out to students in class.  Please see the provided email & paperwork for all details.  Forms and payments are due by Friday, October 28th!


UM All-State Choir Workshop
For the students who register for this workshop, you should have received an email over the break with the unfortunately news that UM has had to make the difficult decision to cancel the workshop this year due to the lack of registrants.  If you pre-paid your registration, the university will be sending you a refund for your registration via check in the mail.


BELK Sale Fundraiser
This week, Grissom Choir will kick-off its 3rd fundraiser of the school year, the annual BELK Charity Sale (9/28-30)!  Tickets for this event can be sold for $5, and all monies raised will go towards each students individual CHARMS account.  This is an easy and fast way to raise money for Grissom Choir fees!  Tickets will be available for check-out by the end of this week, and students will have 2 weeks to fundraise.  Please visit www.grissomchoir.com/fundraisers for more information.
